Sovereign Citizens Misinterpretation of Jurisdiction
The misinterpretation is that lack of jurisdiction can be raised at any point in a case and that, as a Sovereign Citizen, you are somehow exempt from being subject to the court’s authority. They’ll refer to laws or legal concepts, showing bits and pieces of case law, statutes, or constitutional provisions to make it sound like they’ve found a loophole. But the reality is far different.
Legitimate challenges to jurisdiction are a vital part of the legal process, but they must be raised correctly and for valid reasons. Jurisdictional challenges are not a magic wand to make your problems disappear at the last minute, as the Sovereign Citizens would have you believe.
